{NEWS} Emmett’s Fight.

November 7, 2011 § 2 Comments

Have you ever had a story continuously tug at your heart?  I have.  This story has a name & it’s Emmett. I’ve been following this little ray of sunshine’s journey for exactly one year now.

A couple months ago, I had the opportunity to meet sweet Emmett, his endearing parents, Karla & Michael & his loveable brother Ethan.  I visited them in the Pediatric ICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Emmett has been in and out of the hospital for over a year now all because of one small button battery.

At just 12 months of age, Emmett ingested a DVD remote control button battery. Since then, he has endured 14 surgeries, has had almost 200 X-rays & has been hospitalized in the Pediatric ICU for over 19 weeks.  As I stood in that hospital room with the family, I thought…this could happen to anyone who has a small child. This could be me holding my son.

So what can {YOU} do?

PRAY for Emmett & his family as he undergoes yet another surgery today.  He’s been experiencing breathing complications.

DONATE to the {Emmett’s Fight: Battery Button Ingestion Awareness} campaign! The Online Fundraising Event is being held Nov. 1st  – 12th.   Emmett’s Fight campaign is aiming to raise enough funds to apply for Non-Profit status.

SECURE the button batteries in your home.

SPREAD the word & bring awareness to other’s about this danger.  The Mission of Emmett’s Fight is to educate families on the dangers of button batteries & to take action by giving support to those families that have suffered.
