{Celebrate} My Birthday List

It’s my birthday month. Some people celebrate just on their special day. While others let the festivities flow into the following weekend. Celebrating with a birthday week is not uncommon, but why limit it? A birthday month is much more fun!
I’ll be honest. I’m having a really hard time with the idea of turning another year wiser. So after much thought, I’ve decided to make the best of it! I’ve compiled a “To Do” list, so here we go.
12. Enjoy a picnic with my husband & son.
11. Paint a canvas.
10. Order & have Carmela Ice Cream shipped.
9. Purchase a little gift for myself.
8. Make Chocolate Dipped Champagne Marshallows.
7. Go for a hike.
6. Take a Trapeze class w/ girlfriends.
5. Plan my NYC trip.
4. Prepare a meal for my parents & siblings.
3. Get a facial.
2. Help someone in need.
1. Enjoy birthday cake with my husband & little one!

{Bake} Winter Luxe Confections

Winter Luxe Confections is the title of my latest magazine contribution. Sweet treats infused with a glistening wintery palette. I set out to inspire readers to think beyond their store bought confections. Think custom. Think {Winter Luxe Confections}.

Add shimmer to your confections with metallic edible trimmings. Dip store bought cookies in white chocolate & glitz with sprinkles. Note to self: I will include a cookie tutorial on the blog as we move closer to the holidays.

Don’t you just love the stylistic white chocolate trees? They are even more beautiful in person. So beautiful that I displayed a few in my kitchen for a whole week. They were too pretty to toss! Plan for a separate tutorial on how to create these shimmering trees. With a few easy steps, I guarantee your guests will {oooh & aaah}!

I had my local bakery create a 3-tiered marble cake finished off with smooth buttercream. For less than $20, I had a cake base to work with. I purchased 2 metallic tones of satin ribbon from Michael’s, pinned it on the cake & topped with the white chocolate trees. Voila!
The {Peppermint Icing} recipe is found in The Party Dress magazine on page 33. I will also post the recipe on my blog at a later date. Growing up, my mother used this recipe for her brownies. It marry’s perfectly with the chocolate fudge. Once frosted, cut the brownies into bite sizes & place in small papers. Serve or package up for a sweet delivery to a friend.

{Ideas} Mod Halloween

Want a Mod Halloween? Think black & white. I’m smitten over the white pumpkin look. And with a touch of black, you can do almost anything. I adore the wood grain pumpkin and although it’s time consuming, it’s well worth it. The finished product is smashing!
Do you have a multitude of stairs or a long pathway leading to your front door? Flank your stairs or path with Mod pumpkins. If flanking both sides is a bit much or too costly, one side of the pathway will do.
Is a Halloween soiree on the horizon? This cake makes a bold statement! Use a 3-tiered store bought cake & glitz away. Click on the following link for the Mod spider template.

{Design} Chevron Craze

With all the hoopla over Missoni this week & the latest chevron craze…how can you not {LOVE} chevron? Pour over these images & give your creativity a kick start! Incorporate a touch of chevron in your interiors, wardrobe, celebrations, or whatever else you fancy. The options are endless!
Carpet tiles are hip, cool & tres functional! FLOR is stepping up their game with patterns you won’t want to live without…case in point…CHEVRON!
I’m loyal to my white dishes but these chevron beauties could really make a bold statement when added to my white collection. Anthropologie never disappoints!
J’adore {Kelly Green}! A little paint or fondant can work chevron magic with this dresser & tiered cake.

Pinterest will be the death of me…alright…I’m exaggerating a tad. If you haven’t heard of Pinterest, I’ll fill you in on the details at the end of this post. I will forewarn you, it can be highly addictive!
